7’ 3/5/5 Improved Youngstown Door
Shortly after WWII,
Standard Railway Equipment Manufacturing Company developed a new version of
their Youngstown door. It featured
a raised, riveted seam between each of the three panels and a single door lever
centered at the bottom. The
associated starting mechanism was located internally. Box cars with the new door installed were delivered
beginning in 1945. This
polyurethane casting represents a 7 foot wide door, and used on SP, T&NO,
and WM 10’ IH cars built from 1950 to 1952. In the future, SRCC will offer kits using this door.
